To achieve a good latch, position the baby so that their mouth covers a large portion of the areola, not just the nipple. The baby's head should be slightly tilted back with the chin touching the breast. Signs of a good latch include the baby's lips flanged outward and rhythmic sucking and swallowing sounds.
