Nurses typically use a stadiometer to measure a patient's height. A stadiometer consists of a vertical ruler attached to a sliding horizontal headpiece that rests on the top of the patient's head. It can be free-standing or mounted on a wall. Portable stadiometers are also available for use in different settings.
