TPN is indicated for patients who are unable to obtain adequate nutrition through oral or enteral feeding methods. Common indications include severe gastrointestinal disorders such as Crohn's disease, short bowel syndrome, bowel obstruction, severe pancreatitis, and certain types of cancer. It is also used in patients with severe malnutrition or those undergoing major surgery who cannot eat for an extended period.
