Infiltration occurs when the IV fluid leaks into the surrounding tissue instead of the vein. Signs include swelling, pallor, and coolness at the site. To manage infiltration, the IV should be discontinued, and a new site selected. Elevating the affected limb and applying a warm compress can help reduce swelling and discomfort.
