Lymphedema can be classified into two main types: primary and secondary. Primary lymphedema is usually congenital, resulting from an abnormal development of the lymphatic system. Secondary lymphedema is more common and can result from damage to or removal of lymph nodes, often during cancer treatment, infections, or trauma.
