BSE consists of two main parts: visual inspection and physical palpation.
Visual Inspection: Stand in front of a mirror with shoulders straight and hands on hips. Look for any changes in the shape, size, or appearance of the breasts. Next, raise the arms and look for the same changes. Physical Palpation: Lie down and use the opposite hand to examine each breast. Use a firm, smooth touch with the first few finger pads, keeping the fingers flat and together. Cover the entire breast from top to bottom, side to side, from the collarbone to the top of the abdomen, and from the armpit to the cleavage. Use a pattern to ensure that the entire breast is covered.
