Why are Gram Negative Bacteria Significant in Nursing?
Gram negative bacteria are significant in nursing due to their association with various healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). They are often resistant to multiple antibiotics, making infections difficult to treat. Common Gram negative bacteria include Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Acinetobacter baumannii. These pathogens are frequently involved in urinary tract infections, bloodstream infections, pneumonia, and wound infections.
