Eligible nurses can take FMLA leave for several reasons, including: - The birth and care of a newborn child. - Adoption or foster care placement of a child. - To care for an immediate family member (spouse, child, or parent) with a serious health condition. - The nurse’s own serious health condition that makes them unable to perform the essential functions of their job. - Any qualifying exigency arising out of the fact that a family member is on covered active duty in the military.
