What Qualifications Do Nurse Practitioners Need?

To become a Nurse Practitioner, one must first earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and become a registered nurse (RN). After gaining clinical experience, aspiring NPs must complete a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program. These graduate programs include both coursework and clinical practice. NPs must also pass a national certification exam in their chosen specialty and obtain state licensure.
