The origins of nursing can be traced back to ancient civilizations. In ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome, caregivers, often family members, provided care to the sick and injured. The roots of modern nursing, however, can be attributed to the religious and military orders during the Middle Ages. Monastic orders, such as the Benedictines, provided care to the sick as part of their religious duty.
