What is Orthostatic Hypotension?

Orthostatic hypotension, also known as postural hypotension, is a condition characterized by a significant drop in blood pressure when an individual transitions from a lying down or sitting position to a standing position. This drop in blood pressure can lead to dizziness, lightheadedness, or even fainting. It is commonly defined as a decrease in systolic blood pressure of at least 20 mm Hg or diastolic blood pressure of at least 10 mm Hg within three minutes of standing.
