Gray matter consists primarily of neuronal cell bodies, dendrites, and unmyelinated axons, along with glial cells and capillaries. It is distinguished from white matter, which contains myelinated axon tracts. Gray matter is found in several crucial areas of the brain, including the cerebral cortex, cerebellum, and brainstem, as well as in the spinal cord.
