Dantrolene is a muscle relaxant that acts directly on skeletal muscle. It is primarily used to treat conditions such as malignant hyperthermia and chronic spasticity resulting from upper motor neuron disorders like multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, and spinal cord injuries. By inhibiting calcium release from the sarcoplasmic reticulum, dantrolene helps reduce muscle contractions.
