An Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) is a highly skilled nurse who has completed advanced education, typically at a master's or doctoral level, and has obtained certification in a specialized area of practice. APRNs include Nurse Practitioners (NPs), Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNSs), Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs), and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs). In critical care, NPs and CNSs are the most common APRN roles.
