A surgical biopsy is a medical procedure in which a surgeon removes a small sample of tissue from a specific area of the body for diagnostic purposes. This tissue sample is then examined under a microscope to determine the presence of any abnormalities, such as cancerous cells. Surgical biopsies are often performed when other diagnostic tests, such as imaging or needle biopsies, are inconclusive.
