A Nerve Conduction Velocity (NCV) test, also known as a nerve conduction study (NCS), measures how quickly electrical signals move through a nerve. It is used to diagnose various medical conditions related to nerve damage or dysfunction. During the test, small electrical pulses are applied to the skin overlying a nerve, and the speed and strength of the nerve's response are recorded.
