There are several feeding methods used depending on the patient's condition:
1. Oral Feeding: The most natural method, where patients consume food and liquids by mouth. This method is ideal for patients who can chew and swallow without difficulty. 2. Enteral Feeding: Used when patients cannot consume food orally. This involves feeding through a tube directly into the gastrointestinal tract, such as a nasogastric tube or a percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) tube. 3. Parenteral Feeding: For patients who cannot use their gastrointestinal tract at all, intravenous feeding (total parenteral nutrition or TPN) delivers nutrients directly into the bloodstream.
