Sickle shaped cells are a hallmark of Sickle Cell Disease (SCD), a genetic disorder that affects hemoglobin, the molecule in red blood cells responsible for oxygen transport. Unlike normal round red blood cells, sickle cells are crescent-shaped, which can impede blood flow and cause numerous health complications.
