What are Normal and Elevated Levels of Procalcitonin?
In healthy individuals, procalcitonin levels are usually very low, often less than 0.1 ng/mL. Elevated levels, particularly above 0.5 ng/mL, can indicate a significant bacterial infection or sepsis. Levels above 2 ng/mL are highly suggestive of systemic bacterial infection and warrant immediate medical attention.
