iv infusion rates
How to Calculate IV Infusion Rates?
Nurses often need to calculate IV infusion rates manually, especially when using gravity infusion sets. The basic formula for calculating the infusion rate is:
\[ \text{Infusion Rate (mL/hr)} = \frac{\text{Total Volume (mL)}}{\text{Time (hrs)}} \]
For example, if a patient needs 1000 mL of fluid over 8 hours, the infusion rate would be:
\[ \text{Infusion Rate (mL/hr)} = \frac{1000}{8} = 125 \, \text{mL/hr} \]
