How is the Index Calculated?
The CCI includes 17 conditions, each assigned a different weight based on the risk of mortality. For example:
Myocardial infarction (1 point)
Congestive heart failure (1 point)
Dementia (1 point)
Chronic pulmonary disease (1 point)
Diabetes with end-organ damage (2 points)
Any malignancy (2 points)
Moderate or severe liver disease (3 points)
Metastatic solid tumor (6 points)
The total score is calculated by summing up the points associated with each comorbidity present in the patient.
