IBS is primarily diagnosed based on clinical symptoms. Healthcare providers often use the Rome Criteria to diagnose IBS, which include recurrent abdominal pain for at least one day a week in the last three months, associated with two or more of the following:
Related to defecation Associated with a change in stool frequency Associated with a change in stool form (appearance)
Other diagnostic tests, such as blood tests, stool tests, and colonoscopy, may be performed to rule out other conditions with similar symptoms.
