Broth dilution involves preparing a series of dilutions of an antibiotic in a liquid growth medium. These dilutions are then inoculated with a standardized number of bacterial cells and incubated. After incubation, the growth of bacteria is assessed, and the MIC is determined as the lowest antibiotic concentration that prevents visible bacterial growth. There are two types of broth dilution methods: macrobroth dilution and microbroth dilution, with the latter being more commonly used due to its efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
