The patient is asked to lie down on an examination table and place their feet in stirrups. The healthcare provider will use a speculum, a device that gently opens the vaginal walls, to view the cervix. A bimanual examination may follow, where the provider inserts one or two fingers into the vagina while pressing down on the abdomen with the other hand to feel the uterus and ovaries. Samples may be taken for laboratory analysis if needed.
