The NCLEX employs Computer Adaptive Testing (CAT), which adjusts the difficulty of questions based on the test taker's ability. As a candidate answers questions, the computer estimates their ability level and selects subsequent questions that match this estimated ability. The test continues until it determines with 95% confidence whether a candidate passes or fails.
