AEDs are designed to be user-friendly. When turned on, the device provides step-by-step voice instructions. Adhesive pads (electrodes) are placed on the patient's chest, and the AED analyzes the heart's rhythm. If a shockable rhythm is detected, the device instructs the user to administer a shock by pressing a button.
