What Should Nurses Do in Case of a Fire Involving Flammable Materials?
In the event of a fire, nurses should follow the RACE protocol:
Rescue: Evacuate anyone in immediate danger. Alarm: Activate the fire alarm and call for help. Contain: Close doors to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading. Extinguish: Use a fire extinguisher if it is safe to do so, or evacuate if the fire is too large.
Nurses should also be familiar with the location and proper use of fire extinguishers, as well as the facility's fire evacuation plan.
