What is Tissue Engineering?

Tissue engineering involves the use of a scaffold for the formation of new viable tissue for a medical purpose. It often includes the use of cells, engineering methods, and biochemical and physicochemical factors to improve or replace biological tissues. Nurses should be aware that this technology is not just limited to skin but can also include bones, cartilage, blood vessels, and even entire organs.
