Rheumatic Fever is an inflammatory disease that can develop as a complication of inadequately treated streptococcal infection, such as strep throat or scarlet fever. It primarily affects children between the ages of 5 and 15 but can occur in adults as well. Rheumatic Fever can cause lasting damage to the heart, especially the heart valves, and can also affect the joints, skin, and brain.
