Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, commonly known as ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that affects motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord. This leads to muscle weakness, loss of motor control, and eventually, respiratory failure. ALS is often fatal within 3 to 5 years of diagnosis.
