A Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) order is a medical directive written by a physician that instructs healthcare providers not to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation ([CPR](href)) if a patient’s heart stops beating or if they stop breathing. This order is typically made in consultation with the patient and/or their family and is intended to respect the patient’s wishes regarding end-of-life care.
