To become an NP, one must first obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and pass the NCLEX-RN exam to become a registered nurse (RN). After gaining some clinical experience, the individual can pursue a graduate-level NP program, which includes both coursework and clinical practice. Most states also require national certification in the chosen specialty.
