What Education and Training Do Nurse Midwives Require?
To become a nurse midwife, one must first become a registered nurse (RN) by obtaining a nursing degree and passing the NCLEX-RN exam. Following this, prospective nurse midwives must complete a graduate-level midwifery program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (ACME). After finishing their education, they must pass the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB) exam to become Certified Nurse Midwives (CNMs).
