What Education and Training are Required for Coding Specialists?
Most coding specialists have a post-secondary certificate or an associate degree in medical coding or health information technology. Many also obtain certifications from recognized organizations such as the AHIMA or the AAPC. Continuing education is important as well, given the frequent updates to coding systems such as ICD-10 and CPT.
