What Education and Training are Required for Advanced Practice Roles?
To become an advanced practice nurse, one must first complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and obtain registered nurse (RN) licensure. Following this, advanced practice roles require a graduate degree, such as a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP). Specialized training and certification in the chosen field are also necessary. For example, NPs need board certification in their specialty area, while CRNAs must pass a national certification exam after completing a nurse anesthesia program.
