What Changes Have Occurred Due to the IOM Recommendations?
Since the release of the IOM report, several changes have been observed in the nursing field:
Many states have revised their scope-of-practice laws to allow nurse practitioners greater autonomy. There has been an increase in the number of nurse residency programs to support new graduates. The proportion of nurses obtaining a BSN or higher degree has risen. Nurses are increasingly represented in leadership roles within healthcare organizations and policy-making bodies.
