CPMAs have a range of responsibilities that include:
Reviewing medical records to ensure they are complete and accurate. Auditing coding practices to identify discrepancies or areas for improvement. Providing feedback and training to healthcare staff, including nurses, on proper documentation and coding procedures. Ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, such as those set by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Identifying and reporting potential cases of fraud or abuse.
