Despite its advantages, NIPT has some limitations:
Not diagnostic: NIPT is a screening test, not a diagnostic test. Abnormal results should be confirmed with diagnostic tests like amniocentesis. Limited scope: NIPT primarily screens for common chromosomal abnormalities and may not detect all genetic conditions. False positives/negatives: While rare, false positives and negatives can occur, leading to unnecessary anxiety or missed diagnoses.
