Nurses often encounter patients with a variety of oral health issues, including dental caries (cavities), periodontal disease (gum disease), xerostomia (dry mouth), and oral infections. Patients with chronic illnesses, those on medications that reduce saliva production, and the elderly are particularly susceptible to these problems.
