nasopharyngeal airway (npa)

How to Insert an NPA?

Proper insertion technique is crucial to avoid complications. Here are the steps to insert an NPA:
1. Assess the patient’s airway and choose the appropriate size.
2. Lubricate the NPA with a water-soluble lubricant to reduce friction.
3. Position the patient with their head tilted back slightly to align the airway.
4. Insert the NPA into the nostril (preferably the larger one) with the bevel facing the septum.
5. Advance the NPA gently along the floor of the nasal passage until the flange rests against the nostril.
