The assessment of thrills is a part of a comprehensive cardiovascular examination. Nurses and other healthcare providers use the following steps to assess for thrills:
Position the patient in a comfortable and relaxed state. Use the palmar surface of your hand or fingertips to palpate gently over areas such as the precordium, carotid arteries, and peripheral pulses. Feel for any abnormal vibrations or buzzing sensations, which may indicate the presence of a thrill.
