A dialyzer consists of a series of thin, hollow fibers. Blood flows through these fibers, while a special fluid called dialysate surrounds them. The dialyzer uses a semi-permeable membrane to allow waste and excess substances to pass from the blood into the dialysate, which is then discarded. Clean blood is returned to the patient’s body.
