UV light machines work by emitting UV-C light, which penetrates the cell walls of microorganisms and disrupts their DNA or RNA, rendering them inactive or killing them. This process, known as UV germicidal irradiation (UVGI), is effective against a wide range of pathogens, including antibiotic-resistant bacteria and viruses.
