During an NCS, small electrodes are placed on the skin over the nerve being tested. A mild electrical pulse is sent through one electrode, and the response is recorded by another electrode placed further along the nerve. The speed and strength of the nerve's response are measured. Nurses may assist in positioning the patient, ensuring they are comfortable, and explaining the procedure to reduce anxiety.
