While the FPS-R is a valuable tool, it does have some limitations:
It may not be as effective for very young children (under 3 years old) who may not understand the concept of rating their pain. Some patients may have difficulty relating their pain to the faces on the scale. It is less effective for patients with severe cognitive impairments who may not be able to engage with the tool.
Despite these limitations, the FPS-R remains a highly effective tool for many patient populations.
